The Great Cucumber Harvest!

Our first day back from Spring Break and we found a lot more cucumbers ready for harvest!

I spy 5 cucumbers!
{4 from the Lokahi Himawari Section and 1 from the Holomua Himawari section.}
{Those Himawari girls must like cucumbers!}

 This one decided to get fancy!
Our March 28 Harvest! The longest was was a foot long.

So What's cooking' in the Urban Garden Kitchen With Chef Brown?

CUCUMBER YOGURT DIP
[Great with fresh veggies, crackers and flatbread]

{The girls are ready for their Urban Kitchen Cooking Lesson! Let's get started!}

First - lets chop up the cucumbers. We blended one up in the blender.

 We wanted crunchy chunks of cucumbers in our dip so we chopped up the rest by hand.
 We added all of the chopped up cucumbers into a big bowl.

 We sliced up a few into cucumbers sticks for dipping!

T
Then we added greek yogurt and sour cream (8 ounces each).
Chopped up 1 tablespoon of dill and squeezed 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice from lemons.

 Add a dash of salt and pepper and stir!

A simple yet yummy, healthy Cucumber Yogurt dip!

We shared it for the whole school at the Urban Garden Bar at lunch time. YUM!

Stay tuned to see what we do with our Kale Harvest, next!

Do you know about Non-Source Point pollution?

Whether you have a stream running through your backyard, business, local school or park, protecting it is a good idea. Many property owners upstream may not realize that what they do on their land impacts other residents and water quality downstream. Every day pollutants such as trash, yard waste (e.g., grass clippings, leaves, prunings, or fruits), paint, construction debris (e.g., stockpiles of soil, sand, or gravel), used motor oil, fertilizers and pesticides, and dog waste reach our urban streams. Trash on stream banks are unsightly and unsanitary for humans and wildlife. Even organic materials such as yard waste are unacceptable to dump along streams banks. When these materials get into the stream cycle, they decompose and eliminate critical, life-giving oxygen from the water. As a result, streams become unsightly and emit foul odors.
